Play, Active Recreation & Sport

Being active + developing skills = heaps of fun

Let the Y tailor a programme for you!

Our Youth Development Sport & Recreation team are skilled sports and activities facilitators who are passionate about ensuring young people have the opportunity to participate in a range of fun, stimulating, and team-based activities. For education settings, we can deliver lunchtime sessions, after-school sessions, on camps or during school hours. We offer:

COMMUNITY POP UPS: A trailer-load of fun! You’ll see us out in the community in parks and public areas in Ashburton, Temuka, Timaru and Waimate during school terms and in outlying communities like Methven, Mayfield and Hinds during school holidays. Sports can include Badminton, Frisbee Golf, Net Sock, Handball, Soccer/Football, T-Chalk Ball, Unihock (Indoor Hockey), Longball, Ki-o-Rahi, Basketball, Dodgeball, Volleyball, Table Tennis, Futsal, Touch Rugby, Ultimate Frisbee, Rippa Rugby and more.

BUBBLE FOOTBALL: It’s football in a bubble! Participants are encased in an inflated bubble similar to a zorb, which safely encloses the player’s upper-body and head. The game is usually played indoors in a sports hall or outdoors on grass and is designed around having fun.

ARCHERY: The Y has successfully delivered archery in schools since 2009. Archery is a fun and safe recreational activity that is enjoyed by people of all ages, catering for people of almost every size and ability. Our trained, qualified facilitators will come to your venue of choice – we provide all the equipment required.

ACTIVITY BASED LEARNING: The nature of ABL activities allows for participants to improve their understanding of ‘self’ through taking part in a range of fun, experiential group activities. It incorporates learning by doing, combined with reflection and review. These activities are ideal for school camps or leadership/team-building sessions.
