Te Kōhuihui Pūkeko
Disability Youth Club

Programme Overview
The Disability Youth Club was established in March 2024 to provide a welcoming safe opportunity for young people with disabilities to come together.
From the original collaboration between Jess Hurst, The Youth Collective and Parent to Parent South Canterbury, the aim and intention has always been to support social connection for young people and provide a sense of connection and respite for families. The Timaru District Council Community Partnerships and the Y are working together to strengthen and sustain the club ensuring it is consistently available.
Being able to have connection alongside others, actively engaging or simply being in the same space and having access to inclusive social experiences is vital. Creating opportunities that support youth with disabilities to get out into the community, build confidence, and feel a sense of belonging – something every young person deserves.
