Youth Survey 2024 Now Open Online
May 20, 2024
An important youth voice opportunity for taiohi living in Ashburton, Mackenzie, Timaru, Waimate, and Waitaki districts is now open online and runs to 30 June – the Y South & Mid Canterbury’s Youth Survey 2024.
Roughly every two years since 2014 The Y has taken the pulse of the region’s taiohi age 12-24 years on a wide range of topics within the categories of Attitudes, Education & Employment, and Wellbeing. The Y then widely shares the survey results with local government, health, education, social sector, and community stakeholders and decision-makers so they can take note of what our young people have to say and use it in their planning of programmes and services.
This year the survey has been extended to include young people in the Waitaki District. Young people can find the survey on the Y’s TikTok, Instagram and Facebook social media pages and website.
“For this 10-year edition of the survey we consulted with key stakeholders to ensure we’re continuing to ask the questions that will yield insights of value to them,” said Survey Project Manager Michèle Keggenhoff.
“The survey is divided into 3 parts, each taking about 5-7 minutes to complete. This was a change we implemented in the 2021 survey and it really helped increase uptake, where on average about 1000 young people completed each part,” said Keggenhoff.
“We’re urging anyone – businesses, community organisations, schools, churches, sports clubs – who has a young person in their life to encourage them to take advantage of this opportunity to have their say about what life is like for them. We’re particularly keen to include more 19-24 year olds in the survey.”
New questions this year pertain to the effects of the cost of living crisis on young people and their families/whānau, social media usage, stress and anxiety, and work readiness. A report of the survey results will be made public in early September.
